There is a line between confidence and arrogant, between careful and scared.
Sometimes we cross them unconsciously. Even the greatest people crossed them… intentionally or not.
Thinking that you know everything just because you’ve achieved a little success in a small area…
Or avoiding the right actions because you’re afraid to fail, don’t look good, lose face, etc. but telling yourself that “I’m being careful and smart”…
There are so many ways to justify or excuse arrogance and fear…
That’s why it’s so important to:
– Surround yourself with the right people who will remind you to get back on the right track,
– Be open minded to listen to feedback, even though (and especially if) it’s uncomfortable,
– Increase self-awareness.
In that order would be the easiest to do.
Increasing your own self-awareness, by yourself, is one of the hardest things to do for most people because you’re so self-centered.
Putting yourself in an empowering, supportive and challenging environment is usually much easier.
But usually people don’t like uncomfortable feedback, so they choose comfortable environments, that don’t encourage change… so they don’t improve.
Those who do tend to surpass most of the average masses.
