Lately, I have been watching MrBeast content and I’m really impressed by his success and his dedication to his craft.
And in several of his interviews, he mentioned about this thing about obsession. Now, I always know that obsession is the reason behind mega success. Because we always hear about Michael Jordan throwing 10,000 shots a days before he rest. Or people such as Jay Chou who wrote thousands of lyrics before achieving success as superstar. But, it’s definitely crazy to see someone from such a humble beginning in this current youtube scene to be able to achieve such phenomenal results.
One of his advice is really about picking something that you love and be truly obsess with it.
Most people are just doing things for the money without any passion. And you can see from their actions, their work attitude, their behaviour to know that they aren’t doing the things they like.
So, the question I need to ask myself is what do I truly love and have passion about.
Is it music? Is it magic? Is it watching history videos? Is it acting? Is it mimicking people? Or is it just coming out with random ideas?
Because if I don’t have passion about it, I can’t and I won’t put in the energy into the things I’m doing.
Obsession is what fuels innovation and breakthroughs. When others stop at what everyone else is doing, the obsessed dig much deeper and create innovations. This is what separates the great ones from the mediocrity.
Some advice from my mentor:
When you want to really home your skills, it’s useful to break down everything into small processes and actions and five deep into it. Be obsessed. Be aware. Then you can identify things that others can’t. And you can improve much faster than others.
